On December 10, 2015, PI Micah Altman and Berkman Fellow Alexandra Wood presented "Towards a New Ethical and Regulatory Framework for Big Data Research" at the Future of Privacy Forum workshop Beyond IRBs: Designing Ethical Review Processes for Big Data Research in Washington, DC. In this workshop, participants from industry, academia, and government convened to discuss ethical review mechanisms for data collected in corporate, non-profit, and other non-academic settings. Discussions covered topics such as the ethical challenges posed by potential new uses of data, current review processes and procedures from various fields, and frameworks for new ethical review mechanisms and structures.
