 **[Avrim Blum](https://awards.acm.org/award_winners/blum_3732674)**, Toyota Technological Institute at Chicago; **[Irit Dinur](https://awards.acm.org/award_winners/dinur_7594620)**, Weizmann Institute; **[Cynthia Dwork](https://awards.acm.org/award_winners/dwork_5162449)**, Harvard University; **[Frank McSherry](https://awards.acm.org/award_winners/mcsherry_8624197)**, Materialize Inc.; **[Kobbi Nissim](https://awards.acm.org/award_winners/nissim_1629626)**, Georgetown University; and **[Adam Davison Smith](https://awards.acm.org/award_winners/smith_9268378)**, Boston University, receive the ACM **[Paris Kanellakis Theory and Practice Award](https://awards.acm.org/kanellakis)** for their fundamental contributions to the development of differential privacy. Their separate but related work formed a definition of differential privacy which captures the kind of privacy needed in statistical settings, where individual information must be protected while still allowing for discovery of common trends.
